When speaking about classic casino gaming, this is the game that immediately comes to my mind. The Red, White & Blue slot is a “cool old game” in every sense of the word. This 3-reel slot with an American theme was originally released in 1989, the same year as IGT’s Double Diamond slot.

From 1999 onwards, the game also appeared on IGT’s S2000 line of slot machines, further increasing its popularity with U.S. casino players and helping cement its status. It has been a Las Vegas mainstay ever since. Even decades later, this machine is commonly purchased by collectors and hobbyists for home use.

Over the years, a couple of sequels followed, including Deluxe, Double, and Wild Star versions. Thankfully, nowadays, it’s also available online for browser play. On CoolOldGames.com, you’re able to play the Red, White & Blue demo for free without the need for downloads or registration.

How This Game Works

The online Red, White & Blue slot machine is the definition of a simple, straightforward game. 3 reels, only 1 payline, and no free spins or special bonus features. You start with a balance of 1000 demo credits, place single-line bets, and get paid based on the paytable (explained below).

Symbols & Paytable

The goal is to line up symbols on the centered paylines. Combinations are based on symbol-type and/or colors:

  • The symbols being the most classic Lucky Sevens and BAR symbols.
  • The colors being the American flag colors and the game’s namesake: Red, White, and Blue.

Your bet size is multiplied by the payout number in the table. That means the highest potential win is The maximum win would be 1,250,000 credits (500×2500).

How it Feels: RTP & Volatility

The return-to-player (RTP) for 93.98% is definitely on the low side, and there are many better options to be found online from that perspective. While you won’t really feel this in a short session, in the long term, you will. In my opinion, this slot’s appeal comes from its nostalgia, not its returns.

Even though this slot is generally labeled as having medium-high volatility, when playing, it doesn’t feel like that for me. Especially compared to newer medium-high volatility slots. This is most likely due to the fact that there are no bonus rounds, multipliers, or a single payline.

I have experienced quite a few dry spells when playing this slot. However, when those larger winning combinations finally hit, it feels very rewarding.

How to Play Red, White & Blue Slots Online

Step 1: Play for Free on Cool Old Games

While I think nothing beats the feeling of pulling the lever in real life, some of you might not be able to travel to a land-based casino or get your hands on an old machine. In that case, the online version makes it possible to still experience the essence of Red, White & Blue.

Playing online for free at Cool Old Games is ideal for those who want to practice or enjoy the game without pressure or creating accounts.

Step 2: Experiment with Bet Sizing

You can use the “+” and “-” buttons to increase/decrease your bet size. The demo offers a large range of sizing options between $0.05 and $500, catering to both the conservative spinners and the risk-takers.

Experiment with different amounts to find out what keeps you entertained, and what fits your risk tolerance/bankroll management strategy.

Step 3: Use the Auto Spin Feature for Extended Sessions

In terms of action, I felt this slot to be quite slow. In general, it takes a very long time to hit a “Big Win.” So if you’re hunting for big wins, I advise making use of the auto spin feature in combination with a lower bet size. You can pin the feature for 10, 20, 30, 40, or 50 spins. You can manually stop it at any time

There isn’t really a satisfying effect to clicking the spin button, so using autoplay feels worth it for this game.

Step 4: Potentially Play at an Online Casino

For some, this might be the natural extension of free play. However, only consider playing for real money at an online casino if:

  • This is a game you REALLY like, and are bored with playing the demo version.
  • You have the discipline to manage your bankroll and play responsibly.

Unfortunately, most online casinos operating in the United States and abroad don’t offer the exact Red, White & Blue game by IGT. If your favorite casino does not offer the game, and you care mostly about similar game mechanics, there are a couple of alternatives. Lucky 7, for example, is another 3-reel, 1 payline slot that features similar symbols, but also includes wilds and cherries.

Reminder: treat gaming as entertainment only and don’t play with money you can’t afford to lose. Make sure it’s legal to play in your jurisdiction, and reach out to 1-800-GAMBLER if you or your loved ones have a gambling problem. For more info, see our responsible gambling page.

Analysis: Is the Free Red, White & Blue Slot For You?

For those who already know the game but are not in a position to play it in Vegas or another land-based location, the answer is clear: playing Red, White & Blue for free online is the way to go.

But for those who are new to this slot, some guidance might be required. Below is my honest assessment based on player types:

Red, White & Blue will suit you if:

  • You are a nostalgic player, valuing simplicity
  • You are a fan of old school 3-reel, 1-line slots with Sevens and Bar symbols.
  • You are not a fan of flashy bonus features and just want to chase those rare big wins.

This game might not be your thing if:

  • You like having fruit and wild symbols on your classic slot
  • You prefer modern video slot graphics and music.
  • You’re looking for constant stimulation in the form of multipliers and bonus rounds to stay engaged.

Either way, trying doesn’t hurt. Also, if you feel anything is missing on this page, or simply want to voice your opinion on the game, just leave a comment below.
